No, it is not a spelling mistake! The Mike Garner Jass Trio is honoured to bring you an evening of music combining the playful, improvised spirit of the early 1900s with the musical elements of ragtime, blues, and popular music first called jass, and which became later known as jazz.
Mike Garner and Robbie Lavën are no strangers to the Rotorua Jazz Club. Mike is a blues and ragtime guitar wizard with a warm, vibrant singing style breathing life into his vast repertoire of pre-war blues and ragtime music. Robbie again brings his mastery of a dazzling array of musical instruments including his notorious washboard. The third member of the trio, Grant Willis, is a fine double bass and tuba player with a background in Dixie, whose many claims to fame include playing with the late Rodger Fox and his brother Chris in the brass band of their father Louis Fox.
