I Am Rotorua – Isabel McCandlish

“My family lives in Holland but I have lived in Rotorua forever, my whole life. I was in property management prior to this and just the connection of bringing people into their own homes has inspired me to become a real estate agent, and I have managed to secure my first 2 sales which has been exciting!
“It is such a significant milestone in someone's life, whether you’re buying, selling, upgrading, or buying your first home, there is always such an emotional side to it so I think finding that connection with a home has really interested me and keeps me motivated to keep going. Working as an agent has given me freedom with my time, I work on my schedule and I can work as hard as I want and have no cap on how far I want to go. I put in the hard work and get the rewards of whatever I put into it.
“A significant thing that has come from working in real estate has been the opportunities I have had when dealing with people who have come from emergency housing and how they thought that was them for the rest of their lives and giving them another shot. It is warming for them to know that someone else had faith that they could change their life around. For me to be able to contribute to the community one house at a time has been extremely rewarding.
“I think here in Rotorua, we have everything. It takes me 10 minutes to get to work, we have lakes, food, the beaches are close, everything you could need without the big overheads of a big city. The town is so culturally diverse, Yamoto, for example, is somewhere I eat all the time. I have travelled all around the world but there is something about this town that you just can’t find anywhere else. We have a little taste of everything.”
