I Am Rotorua – Keegan Mitchell

Keegan Mitchell loves to run! You’ll often spot him early in the morning running through the city centre – and probably lots of other places around Rotorua too. He started up a run club, Good Day Athletic Club, hoping to inspire others to give it a go.
“I hope the run club becomes huge and helps loads of people achieve things they otherwise wouldn’t attempt, and that the club is seen as a safe space for all, a place for people to connect and check in.
“Rotorua is such a beautiful place with so much to do. The beach and snow are so close, there are loads of lakes, a massive forest, and so many picturesque places to explore.
“Every week when we meet for the run club, I feel proud to be part of the Rotorua community when, as a group, we run through places that just feel like home to me.
“I’ve definitely seen positive change through my run club. So many people who turn up have only just started running and are keeping consistent; others bring their kids which helps them see that exercise is about having fun and sharing moments with others.
“I feel that the best way to see a place is on foot and in Rotorua there is so much to see in such a small space – you can be at the lakefront and the forest is less than 4km away.”
